If you like Javascript, now you can run it outside of your browser. Not sure it is a great thing, but you may see that you can put your HTTP knowledge to use as you'll be able to follow the video.
I can't tell you for sure. I guess the right answer is "it depends". But it was mostly an excuse to get you to hear other people talking about HTTP and its details :-)

Node is competing with PHP on the server side. Windows is not the most popular server platform (Linux|BSD + Apache) is.
